Bis Industries, a leading Australian provider of services to the minerals and resources industries, supplies mining equipment to the coal industry on Australia’s East Coast. Helping the company’s customers get serious work done in challenging environments requires a thorough asset inspection process. To get assets back on hire faster and improve customer satisfaction, Bis Industries Underground division needed to eliminate manual inspection processes.
The division eliminated manual processing and double handling with a mobile app that lets personnel perform mining equipment inspections on tablets. The DSI Digital Supply Chain Platform’s prebuilt integration with the company’s backend system enables Bis personnel to create a work order at the time a customer signs off on repairs on the tablet. As a result, the app decreases the time taken to provide a damage claim to the customer.
On top of shortening lead times to move assets through workshops and get them back on hire, the app also increases end-to-end supply chain visibility. Prior to implementing the mobile app, the lack of a central database for asset maintenance history limited visibility. Now, Bis personnel, workshops and customers can utilize the output from the DSI app.
Since deploying the mobile app, Bis Industries Underground division has achieved the following results:
By putting information in the hands of Bis Industries’ workers, the DSI app enables them to do their jobs faster and better. “As there are no manual processes to input recorded data, personnel are able to spend time looking at machines now and resolving mechanical issues instead of sitting in front of a computer,” said a Bis Industries representative. “DSI enables us to compare before and after hire pictures and inspection details of assets to make resolving recharge issues more efficient.”
